High Oleic Sunflower Oil

High oleic sunflower oil and other high oleic oils are a more healthful option for manufacturers than traditional vegetable oils and animal fats. High oleic sunflower oil enables food companies to reduce saturated fat levels and eliminate trans fats in their processed foods.

Consumers continue to demand a healthier diet and are becoming more conscious of the origin of the food they eat. Demand for home grown oils is increasing and Pure Oil New Zealand Limited is at the forefront of the industry, working directly with Grower Suppliers to grow high oleic sunflower crop varieties and process oils for the New Zealand food manufacturer customers.

What does High Oleic mean?

High oleic sunflower oil has a significant amount of monounsaturated (oleic) fatty acid. High-oleic sunflower oil is typically comprised of 80% monounsaturated fat and 10% linoleic acid (a polyunsaturated fat), the remainder being saturated fat. Whereas conventional sunflower oil contained 20% monounsaturated fat, meaning high oleic sunflower oil is far more stable and less prone to oxidisation.

We extract the high oleic sunflower oil from the seed under a cold pressing method and then refine, bleach, and deodorise. The resulting oil is not your typical ingredient or frying oil.

Enhances Flavour

High mono-unsaturated levels (oleic) in the oil give excellent stability in processed foods and long shelf life. Cold pressing with low temperature deodorising preserves the quality in the sunflower oil which flows into the food and promotes great flavours in food when frying or as an ingredient oil. High mono-unsaturated levels (oleic) are a healthy fat and as a seed oil good for cholesterol levels of people.
